For the role of Desdemona, I decided to cast Lily James because of her portrayal of Cinderella. In the film, she plays the role of elegance and innocence- these are qualities that Desdemona also possesses. She is only 27 years old which makes her ideal because Desdemona was originally casted as someone who is young. She has also been part of the TV series Downton Abbey, a historical period drama. This promotes the idea that Lily knows how to act in a manner that is different to the modern age. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama which is one of the world's leading drama school. This shows she has a good education when it comes to the arts and has most likely studied Shakespearean dramas.
