For the role of Cassio I chose James McAvoy because he has performed in several West End productions, and received three nominations for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor. This shows that he is comfortable with acting on a stage rather than just being on screen and he also has a good experience working on stage because he received nominations for his acting. He is from Scotland, but has portrayed an English accent within many films showing that he could be part of Othello in a convincing way. In 2003, McAvoy appeared in a lead role in Bollywood Queen, a British Indian take on the Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet, showing he has experience with being in Shakespearean productions.
